“Your Life Matters”

I had the pleasure of meeting the late Dr. Jane Goodall personally 20+ years ago, while supporting her Roots & Shoots youth program in Asia. I recall that one of her key messages is that every action, no matter how small, counts, and can help to make the world a better place. Last week, I was very touched, watching Dr. Jane Goodall – in “Famous Last Words” – a new series on Netflix which records in-depth interviews with some of the world’s cultural icons (with the understanding that the interviews will only be aired after their respective deaths). I found this interview concept to be enlightening, and it made me wonder what I myself would say about my own life, when given the chance to review and look back one day.

At the end of her 50+ minute interview, the interviewer leaves Dr. Jane Goodall to herself so that she can verbalize her final message to the world. I suggest watching the interview in its entirety, but have attached the final 3 minutes of the video HERE.

Excerpt from “Famous Last Words” by Dr. Jane Goodall: “I want to make sure that you all understand that each and every one of you has a role to play. You may not know it, you may not find it, but your life matters, and you are here for a reason. And I just hope that reason will become apparent as you live through your life. I want you to know that, whether or not you find that role that you’re supposed to play, your life does matter, and that every single day you live, you make a difference in the world. And you get to choose the difference that you make.
