Kevin Parker, MA, RCC
Registered Clinical Counsellor
My interest in psychotherapy stems from a deep and abiding desire to know myself through introspection and honest inquiry and to assist others in actualizing the ability to live the most authentic life possible. My qualifications as a counsellor come not only from years of education and hands on experience in the field but from what I have gained from personal experience from the other side of the therapeutic equation; my own descent into shadow material through trauma, depression, and the voluntary use of psychedelic medicines for deepening into repressed and subconscious material. I have had the good fortune to work with some of the pioneers in the field of Transpersonal Psychology and spirituality including Stanislav Grof, Ram Dass, Gabor Maté and Reginald Ray.
My areas of specialty are trauma, depression, anxiety and couples work with an emphasis on sexuality. I also work with psychedelic integration, assisting clients who have chosen to work with enthogens or psychedelics in their healing process. I have a background in spiritual emergency, and can assist with integrating mystical or religious experiences into ones daily life. As a singer/songwriter I feel that the expressive arts can play an important role in the therapeutic process and I encourage clients to develop their creative potential free of judgement or shame. I am also able to support clients navigating topics such as sexual identity and preference including polyamory, alternative lifestyles, and non-conforming gender issues.
After assessing a client’s needs, I work with what I feel is the most appropriate therapeutic modality which may include mindfulness practice and breath work, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) somatic tracking and guided meditation. I approach counselling from a holistic perspective looking at lifestyle, diet, exercise, self medication and self care strategies.
